Families drove through the parking lot at appointed times to take delivery of backpacks filled with school supplies, toiletries, hand knit hats, gloves, underwear, socks, a sweatshirt, and a book. When Back to School Shop holds its 7th annual event on July 25th, 450 children and their families will drive through the parking lot of Davenport Ridge Elementary School to collect items they'll need to go back to school next year. The children, who are chosen and pre-registered by elementary school social workers, will receive a backpack, school supplies, books, toiletries, socks, underwear, a sweatshirt and a generous gift card to help them complete their back-to-school shopping. And this year, thanks to an army of volunteer knitters and crocheters, each child will be able to select a hand-made winter hat.

STAMFORD, CT — The non-profit organization Back to School Shop held their annual event in Stamford today. Families lined up their cars at Davenport Ridge Elementary to pick up a backpack filled with school supplies. The event is usually a pop-up shop but, due to the Pandemic, it was a drive-through. Organizers say that more than 50% of elementary school kids in the city are economically disadvantaged and they want to make sure all kids have what they need to be successful at school.

STAMFORD — Back to School Shop, Inc., an all-volunteer community organization, held its sixth annual event on Sunday, August 30, at Davenport Ridge Elementary School in Stamford. Parents of nearly 350 children from the Stamford public elementary schools, who had been registered in advance by their school social workers, drove through the parking lot at appointed times to take delivery of backpacks full of school supplies, toiletries, hat, gloves, and a book. Parents were also given a $100 Target gift card for each child, to help them finish their back to school shopping. Families whose children were registered but not able to make it to the school on Sunday will have their items delivered to their elementary school for them.
